CMJB had over 5000 visitors in only 7 months !!!!!! Guys who would have thought ?! I mean I believe in myself but wasn’t even hoping for so many people to check out this blog in such a short time. So I obviously want to thank y’all for tuning in, despite my irregular posts and my broken English.
So many things have happened since the blog started in March 2020, I don’t even know where to begin. First of, I didn’t really post anything about the elephant in the room: Covid-19. That’s because I feel like it’s already dragging a lot of us down and you’ve all probably read about it over and over again. That said, I do want to wish every one of my readers lots of strength, hope and courage for what has been and what’s yet to come. I think this meme about 2020 pretty much sums up how I’ve been feeling all that time.
It’s fair to say that no one was expecting 2020 to turn this way. For me, the year started with hopes for a new (good) life in Germany. The best parts so far were definitely my work experience, my love life and obviously starting this blog, along with my black girl gamers initiative : Afrogameuses. I’m thankful for the creative opportunities that the pandemic gave me as I got to explore my own mind and reflect on what really matters. However, on that journey, I was reminded by the news that many don’t consider that my life actually matters.
As a black woman, I felt (and still do) considerably overwhelmed by the recent events. To do my part as an activist, I tried to write about how racism affected my life : how I discussed it with my white boyfriend, how black female gamers are also impacted and how black travel could be a weapon against it. Now I know this isn’t much, but if the messages I’m sending out there positively affect one of you, I can consider my work helpful. I still strongly believe that we can make a change as long as we don’t wait for the next murdered black person to be killed or the next microaggression to happen.
Yes we have two pandemics to fight against. But not everything in 2020 is bad. When it comes to my personal life, things are finally getting better. Afrogameuses is a project that I cherish and I couldn’t be happier for the success it encounters with people. I am planning on making it a real non-profit organization, create its website and dedicate a lot of time to its community. I also decided to become a freelancer and already found my first customers. We are going to make it.
On the sad part, this means I will be loaded with work. But I refuse to neglect CMJB. Even now, I’m super busy, but I thought it would be interesting for you to know what’s up with me and the blog. I will try to write posts at least once a month now. And while we’re on the topic, I am looking for female contributors to write on CMJB. Do get in touch if you’d like to share your story !
I still have many topics to write about and discuss with you guys. I want to update you about life in Germany, and have more queenterviews with amazing women as well as workplace relationships, travel experiences and everything that comes with being a black woman. Is that the type of content you’d like to see? I definitely want to meet your expectations ! What do you say ?
